See the boy by the fountain, He lost everything. The boy by the fountain cries into the wind. A boy among men, A man among boys, Failing every time to read the sign in time. See the boy with the easel, He loved everything. The boy with the easel cries into the wind. He painted the sunlight, He painted the rain, Trying every time to capture the mood again. See the girl by the fountain, She waits there in vain. The girl by the fountain cries, in the rain. She wanted to see him, So that she could confess, All these years she had secretly longed to get paint on her dress. See the girl by the fountain, She lost everything. Still she hears him cry, in the wind.

Riversong 04:40
I asked the preacher and the minister, Where all the saints and apostles were. They showed me books and maps and charts, But there are so many treacherous parts. I asked the poets and the architects, About the time that time forgets. They showed me books and, But there are so many treacherous parts. Take me down to the river, lord, I got to wash my body clean, Take me down to the river, lord, To get my soul and my body clean. I asked the stars and the moon and sky, If they could show me the reason why, But they were lost in books and charts, Filled with so many treacherous parts. I asked of death and of suicide, What it is that they have to hide. But all the books and maps and charts… Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah. Take me down to the river, lord, I got to wash my body clean, Take me down to the river, lord, To get my soul and my body clean. I asked a child who could not read, Where all the paths and the tunnels lead, She just smiled and laughed and sighed, 'Said, "Daddy won't you come swim with the tide?" Take me down to the river, lord, I got to wash my body clean, Take me down to the river, lord, To get my soul and my body clean.

Mistakes 03:22
I might be cynical, But it's hard to keep some faith, When you've spent all the time you had On things that are bound by fate. Everybody makes mistakes, Everyone I know makes mistakes. I may have tried, Too hard to make things work. Hold on tight, don't let go, When the truth twists and turns. How come nobody never learns? Oh how come nobody ever learns? 'Cause nothing here is sacred, It all stopped making sense, When fact turned into fiction, In a desperate attempt to be believed. I'm giving up. I'm tired and I wanna go home. You've had your chance, Too many times. There's nothing more to hang upon these bones. Why do we keep throwing stones? When can we stop throwing stones? 'Cause nothing here is sacred, It all stopped making sense, When fact turned into fiction, In a desperate attempt to be believed.

Carousel 03:57
Another storm brews up, In a teacup. It breaks my heart. Another day goes down, I wake in a different town, And round and round, I go. Another dream undone, And I'm broken. I slip away. I stare into the sun, I've fallen for someone, And round and round, I go. I feel much better now, I'm different somehow. I smile again. I stop the carousel, And kiss them all farewell, I'm grounded now, right here.

Close 02:30
She closed her mind so she wouldn't have to think anymore. She said she couldn't find the strength to open up that door. No-one knows the reason why, The smallest thing could make her cry. She closed her mind because it hurt her far too much to say goodbye. She closed her eyes so she's decide the kind of things she saw. I thought that I could make her see what the problem was for sure. When she asked for my advice, She couldn't help but close her eyes. She closed them tightly so that she could only see the lie inside. She let me go but I know that she wanted me to stay. It hurt us both but at times there can be no other way. Heaven knows the reason why, The brightest stars are the first to die. She closed her mind because it hurt her far too much to say goodbye.

I'm gonna to talk to Jo, About the things I've seen. I hope he knows what they mean. We need to go outside, In here there is no room for thoughts To collide, turn and dive, With the moon. Jo says he understands, We should have lived long ago. He knows just how cold it grows. Into the dark my friend, We have frontiers to burn and bend, We'll pretend we can mend, Our concerns. We'll walk into the woods, And drink beneath the stars. He knows time holds all the cards. Wind blows and hourglass shows Our minds are at their best tonight, Far from madness we decide. But madness knows no place to hide. Madness knows no place to hide.

Watch me falling, Eyes wide open, Tumbling down, Towards the ground. All around me, Snowflakes turning Pirouette, Without a sound. Far below are, People walking Through the snow, Unaware. Birds let out from Cathedral windows Soar into December air. Recollection, Saturation, Apple pies, Fairground rides. Sweet sea breezes, Clothes with creases, Dragonflies, Washing lines.

about

Past Lives is a collection of work, from my 'pre-Jupiter', 'post-ambient' period! My aim was to produce a record of songs and instrumentals exploring themes such as finding beauty in sadness, in broken and damaged things, using 'found' instruments like bicycles, toys and junk, along with an eclectic range of 'real' instruments. Various working titles included "La Marionette", "The French Album", and to some, even "The Suicide Album"! I hope you will find the joy in the sadness and delight in the squeaks and creaks of some of the cranky instrumentation!
